A lone wolf photographer ventures west toward the life she’s always wanted after a fatal diagnosis. Along the way she picks up an unlikely travel buddy - a suicidal, yet otherwise healthy, young graduate.
Michelle has long taken care of others, essentially neglecting what she's really wanted out of this wild ride called life. After a fatal diagnosis numbers her days, she pulls the plug on her mundane Midwestern existence and heads west on Route 66 toward her childhood best friend's home in Ojai, California. Finally enjoying her selfhood on her solo journey, she plans to document her trip of bucket list adventures through her art of photography.

At a literal crossroads of desolate train tracks set against a beautiful mountain scape, Michelle encounters Stevie, a wounded animal of a young woman. She finds Stevie in cap and gown, waiting for the train that will end her life on the very day she graduated from college. Unable to simply walk away, Michelle reluctantly takes on this unasked for travel companion. As they adventure through the American Southwest, they experience the beauty and tangled history of the people and places they encounter, and the one's they've left behind.

Michelle wants to suck the marrow out of the precious little life she has left. Stevie finds life itself to be a terminal disease. Together, in opposition, they find the dark humor of the human condition, the light available to each soul no matter their circumstances. Michelle discovers that needing one another is not such a bad thing. Stevie finds that life, with all the damage it can cause, is still worth living as she helps Michelle find her way to a peaceful exit from this big blue marble.

Switch Track is a story of how a chance encounter can change the course of your entire life. This is a story of how we live, and sometimes mercifully die, on our own terms.
