New York City based, Jan Jalenak grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. She began her career as an actor and playwright and is a lifetime member of the Actors Studio. Her early training with the legendary Sanford Meisner instilled a fearlessness to dig deep in all disciplines of her art. Jan directed her first full length play, “Touch My Face” at the Fourth Street Theater and her many one-act plays have been produced throughout theaters in NYC. As a film writer and director, she made her first short, an award winning film, “You Can Kiss Me” before finishing “A Shattering”. She wrote the script for the film, “Stuck in Muskogee”, making it’s rounds in film festivals now. Her feature scripts, “The Happy Family” and “Spilled Coffee” are in preproduction as well as another short, “Misanthrope on Vacation”.
Janet began dancing at the age of three and choreographed her first dance show to Shania Twain’s “Man, I Feel Like A Woman” in her living room at eight. This deep love of performance led her to study Musical Theater at AMDA in LA. This ultimately brought her to her current home in NY where her bicoastal lifestyle allows her to flourish in all avenues of art. As a Filmmaker, Janet’s been known to kickoff her dancing shoes and put on her Producer Hat! She currently has five short films on the Film Festival Circuit. Excited to have A Shattering written and Directed by Jan Jalenak starring Scott Cohen and Kelly Wolf screening at Lady Filmmakers.
